Astrological Highlights October 2022

Prepare yourself for a whole lot of cosmic activity this month, including the annual Dark of the Moon, a Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on Tuesday, October 25th, and Mars going retrograde in Gemini on Halloween weekend.

Mars Retrograde In Gemini

This year, the October Full Moon is on Sunday, October 9th in the sign of Aries. With Mars in Gemini in its pre-retrograde shadow period at this time, it will pack a powerful punch! Mars will go retrograde in Gemini on October 30th, which will last until January 12th, 2023.

Mars is all about fire and action, and Gemini about speed and intense energy. Be careful of over-indulgences and aggressive behaviors. Think twice before you speak and act. Don’t jawbone yourself by talking too much. Don’t take unnecessary risks.

Mars retrograde is fun and exciting. Hectic, but fun. It inspires us to get involved in projects or with people that we normally would not even consider. While all this activity is not permanent (it rarely lasts longer than ten months), it is a very productive period.

Samhain And The Dark Moon

October is also the month where one season ends, and another begins. In the Northern Hemisphere, mother earth now wishes to rest and sleep. She is weary from the spring excitements and summer activities.

The horned god is now fresh and newly awoken. He is at peak strength. In October, the divine male and female energies of the horned god and the earth mother, unite for two nights. They take time to be alone together, focused only on each other. They are exchanging power. This energy culminates during the Dark of the Moon in October.

In my own experience, I already feel the more evolved spirit energies beginning in late August and through September. The only way I can describe it is that you know this shift is happening when you feel it. For me it is an amazing, loving, and happy spirit energy. It is also a powerful energy.

During the Dark Moon period the veil between dimensions becomes thin. Mischievous spirits are able to cross over and play in the mortal realm for a night or two. Because the mischief energies of earthbound spirits are not yet spiritually evolved enough, they are unable to move between the dimensions of mortal body and the hereafter until the veil between dimensions it is at its thinnest. They must wait for the dark of the moon in October.

This is the true Halloween, traditionally known as Samhain. It is a celebration of the harvest and to usher in the ‘dark half of the year.’ And this year we can also expect exceptional paranormal and mystical experiences. Have no doubt, ‘tis the season.

Halloween ends the day after the dark of the moon in October. Earth mother then goes to sleep, and the horned god is awake. One season ends, and a new season begins. The cold, dark seasonal energy of winter is the domain of the horned god. This belief stems from ancient times when people hunted during the fall and winter to supplement their summer crops.

I always like that we are able to celebrate both the Dark of the Moon and Halloween around the same time. It’s double the pleasure and fun! With a Dark Moon reigning alongside Mars Retrograde in Gemini this year, it will be a good time to mingle and mix. Just don’t talk yourself and others to utter exhaustion!

Consider wearing costumes from past Halloweens this year, and expect to unexpectedly run into old friends and lovers. Go out and have fun, but be careful. Even though earthbound energies are not as far along on the cosmic path of enlightenment as other energies, they gather in groups or hordes and combine their energies which allows them to make plenty of mischief. Don’t look for unnecessary trouble around Halloween, you will find it. Know and respect your limits.

The Winter Eclipse Duo

This year’s Dark of the Moon occurs on Monday, October 25th. The next day will be a Partial Solar Eclipse. This will be followed by the Total Lunar Eclipse on Tuesday, November 8th.

If your zodiac sign is Gemini and Sagittarius, you should especially pay attention, because you are likely to be the most affected by the two winter eclipses. Sagittarius will feel the first eclipse more intensely – on Halloween no less – while Gemini will bear the brunt of the November eclipse, because of Uranus in Taurus, which falls in Geminis 12th house of secrets. Brace yourself Sagittarius and Gemini!

Eclipses occur four times a year, sometimes five times, and occasionally even six, but this is rare. Eclipses deliver energy shifts that are unavoidable and non-negotiable. It is never subtle. It always manifests with a bang; you will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have been eclipsed! The whole shebang is usually plopped right at your doorstep.

The reason eclipses are non-negotiable, is because we do not initiate the energy. Someone else does. You cannot stop something that you are not aware of and therefore do not control.

Eclipse influences initiate 30 days before the first eclipse (they usually occur in pairs, two weeks apart), continue during the time of the eclipses, and continue afterwards for some of us for as long as another 30 days after the second eclipse. So, the total duration of an eclipse influence can be as much as 74 days.  We can therefore expect to feel November’s coming eclipse energy as early as Friday, October 26th until the second week of December.

This duo of winter eclipses are especially relevant to our love lives. Expect a lot of informative communications and truth revelations during the 74-day eclipse period. If a partner has been cheating, you may find out by accident. If any stable relationship is going awry, attempt to fix it, as breakthroughs can also be had. If a compromise can’t be made, then let it go and don’t be afraid. Just leave and move on.

There is one very important issue to remember about ending a love affair, or quitting a job, or moving, or almost any other ending during an eclipse. If you leave, it is well and truly over. You might still see your ex or your coworkers or visit your old neighborhoods, but you won’t ever feel the same about those people or circumstances again.

Love, although it is a ‘many-splendored thing,’ might not go so smoothly in October, so if there are discordant emotions and volatile drama, don’t be surprised. But don’t make major changes, yet. Hold your horses for now and remain steady. Better times are coming soon, beginning around November 9th and henceforth for the rest of the year.

Trust your intuition, then you will know exactly when it is time to act. But if you attempt to force a situation, even if you believe you are ‘right,’ you may deeply regret it. Let the eclipse energy run its course, and wait through the post-shadow period of both Mars and Mercury retrograde. It is not long now, only about six more months, until around spring of 2023. So, take things easy and slowly. Use this time wisely.
